Tani is based. The lines that he dropped are just too smooth:

I heard it, but I'm not going to get worried over every little thing.

    You're adorable.

I liked the maturity that Suzuki showed too:

I mean, our tastes are probably totally different!

But, it's like, not everything has to match perfectly, you know?

The cast kept bringing up the fact that these two are polar opposites, but honestly, they’re a pretty good fit for each other.

God the fact that misunderstandings are resolved in SECONDS and everyone just says what they are feeling…like real people…feels just so foreign. You can definitely tell the mangaka is not a dude writing from a women’s perspective. Demand more from your romcoms, after this I will be incredibly more picky

Edit: the manga also lasted a few years before… Ending… Because that’s what stories do. They eventually reach a conclusion and aren’t milked to the absolute ever loving fuck of no return to the detriment of the plot, story and character developments. She’s got another manga anime adaptation coming out in April for her second and most recent work and I will be watching her career with great interest.

Dude is quite smooth, I feel like he’ll go for a kiss in the next episode.

Also idk what happened to subtitles in this season but it’s another show translated so badly I need to switch off subtitles because it’s like a completely different story. Better to watch with a dictionary on a second screen than this.

        Sure:

I think those are CR subs but I’m not sure. Whoever is the culprit for me is just unwatchable.
        In this clip for example:
Subs say: “There isn’t much for you to do here.”
        In realty he says: “飽きたら先に帰っていいから”
Which translates to something more or less like this:
“If you get bored, you can go home first.”

Subs comes of as rude IMHO while in reality he’s being very considerate and polite.

On the second part of the clip:
Subs say: “Do you think I can’t read” - this would be fine but they also add:
“Oh, God, he thinks I can’t read.”
She doesn’t say that at all!
In reality it’s more like: “Even I can read a book!”
They either did that to appeal to western audience or more likely it’s just audio-description of dubs. Second options makes sense since it would cut costs and explain why they throw another sentence, original Japanese sentence is very long “いくら私でも読書ぐらいできるけど” but it translates to “Even I can read a book!” which is way shorter. In subs there’s no problem but with dubs you have to match lip movement.

Anyway this is my opinion but subs like this change the tone of the show. Even if meaning is the same they way how that meaning is conveyed makes all the difference. Not to mention that if you understand at least a little Japanese it feels like two different shows play at the same time.

Oh yeah I see. Thanks for talking the time for this .

It does sound like it was modified for a western audience.

Like when nagatoro says “sus” in the subs

I’m curious too. Sure a couple of lines were translated awkwardly, but “translated so badly I need to switch off subtitles because it’s like a completely different story” is basically libel as far as I can tell.

See my other comment. But it really comes off as a different story. How things are being said is very important even if the meaning is the same.

I really liked Taira-kun. I knew the type of character he would be right away, though I didn’t expect his character development to be that fast. That last scene with his antics really killed me hahaha

The show is doing really well by not having any character that I consider annoying, it’s pretty refreshing.
