Damn it, the human immune system is just terrible. Still, if humans do return and set up a research facility on Earth, maybe they could start retraining their immune systems. Over a few generations, they might eventually adapt and be able to live on Earth again. I’m just glad we got a happy ending instead of some dark, existential one.

Yeah! If they could ‘un-adapt’, I don’t see why they couldn’t re-adapt. No idea how much time that’d take though. They’ve been in space for a couple of centuries at this point after all.
If the problem is purely allergies, careful exposure to the allergens under controlled conditions should have some of them able to walk around without suits within a generation. Although they’ll likely need to carry hayfever meds and epi-pen equivalents around.
