I liked this one a lot.
The synopsis made it sound like there was going to be some high drama, and I wasn’t sure what to make of that, since I couldn’t see it in the context of rakugo performers, and it seemed a bit out of place with the rest of what I could gather about the story. But somehow the drama was there, and it worked, at least insofar as it grabbed my attention.
And it strikes me that that’s sort of appropriate, and might’ve even been deliberate (and if so well done), since creating drama (and humor and pathos and whatever else) out of essentially nothing is a large part of what rakugo is all about. It’s only partly about the subject and story, and largely about the delivery.
Which could be said to be the case with this episode as well.
In any event, overthinking it or not, I enjoyed it. And I really liked the ED too.
Prologue episode. Watched the first few minutes… and seasonal anime to watch change! (WHA will have to wait)
I got reminded why I liked rakugo shows so much and want more of it. This is well-made.

Done!
Fuck Netflix. It’ll only be available for my region in May.

I know, but it’s still annoying.
It didn’t blow me away, and some parts were a little overdramatic, but it’s a pretty good start overall. It has potential, so I’ll be watching it
Didn’t realize this was gonna be a Netflix show. For something that’s primarily people talking I’d prefer better subtitles than that. I guess I’ll just wait.
