Worth noting that the word used for curse here was referring to a subcategory of curses:
呪縛 [じゅばく]
(n,vs,vt) spell that restricts one’s movements; binding spell
Man, this anime is tackling so many societal and relational issues you’d think it’d get messy, but it’s dealing with them excellently.
I love this anime so much.
that ender-punch got to me sooo hard
The one-word title - “Bind” - for the episode is genius as usual. So many layers / levels of metaphors (? if that is the right term) here: alluded to in the definition of “curse”, Asa’s and Emiri’s friendship, society’s treatment of women / sexism, and possibly more that I missed.
Also Kasamachi’s relationship with his toxic father, treatment of people who somehow stand out from the crowd for one reason or another. But not only the ones that could fit under the term curse, positive ones too, like Makio’s and Asa’s mother-daughter sort of relationship in the long term. It’s impressive how this show manages to juggle so many complex issues in such a short timespan and make it feel natural and interesting. Truly great episode again.
Oh, I watched the documentary about Asa’s notebook the other day.

Look’s like I’m 8 hours too late haha. I just about to write about that the video’s been hanging around my feeds, but I just glimpse over it. I rushed over to watch it after I finished the episode lol.
Here’s one video reviewing the books. Apparently, it’s good for fountain pen, I didn’t realize there’s a whole subculture about stationary. Fun !
