Maybe my other comment could help?

On a side note, if this is the level of writing in the manga and the anime studio is just (“just” is doing some heavy lifting, I know) adapting it, then kudos to the manga author.

I thought it was all the anime director, elevating the source material.

Can’t wait to see this episode. The animation has been incredible so far.

Something has definitely changed. My wife is starting from episode one, and while the animation in the early seasons is good, they’ve really kicked it up to another level in Shibuya and so far into season 3. It’s like every episode so far has been the Mahoraga fight.

I’m not really sure why Yuuji and Megumi are joining Fight Club, or why Panda is there, but the “fight” was somewhat amusing.

The bit about cursed corpses was interesting, but again, the story leading up to that felt random and insufficiently explained.

The show might have taken a turn to where the audience beyond simply watching, is entirely dependent on their own researchinto the lore and plot to figure out what is going on.

I’m not really sure why Yuuji and Megumi are joining Fight Club, or why Panda is there

I believe they are in a mini crew-assembly arc (like in heist movies) to get more strong players on their side in the upcoming culling game. Kinji is one such key person and the Itadori gang are willing to jump through hoops to recruit him. It looked like they had Panda infiltrate first, with Yuuji and Megumi following up to seal the deal.

The bit about cursed corpses was interesting, but again, the story leading up to that felt random and insufficiently explained.

I thought the cursed corpse part drew some parallel to the Maki rampage in the previous episode. It’s more politicking again, this time by the Kyoto principal’s side to maintain / expand their power.

If you think about it, even without Gojo Satoru, the Tokyo students should have been safe from Jujutsu authorities due to their school’s backing. This flashback showed how their principal was dealt with, removing the last bit of protection for these students.

Anyway, I am starting to recognise the trend:

      some ramblings

members of the Tokyo JJK are all outcasts, ostracised by the rest of Jujutsu society. It’s not just the students like Yuuji, Megumi, Panda, Maki and Yuta; it’s the staff too, especially Satoru and Yaga.

The school is never about actually educating the next generation of students. It’s for keeping potential political opponents in one place, to monitor them and to keep them in check, ensuring their own power is never threatened.

Regarding Yaga’s backstory, it seems that he was likely placed on a deferred death(?) sentence for his powers - just like Yuta and Yuuji - in the past (if not explicitly, then implicitly; they would come for his life the moment he no longer serve a purpose to them).

He would have been careful not to make any missteps that warrant them coming after him, but they managed to use the personal angle - his family - against him. With Panda as bait to draw him out, and his cursed corpse required to be left behind, he made for an easy picking.

I really enjoy the direction / story-telling in this season of JJK. This style of non-linear started in season 2 as far as I can tell, but they kicked it up a notch in this season. It’s way better than the spoonfeeding of information associated with slops; I’d never get bored.
