If they want to stop piracy they should improve their service rather. Piracy is a service problem.
You don’t need to use Discord to watch Anime…if you want to talk about anime, just talk with actual irl friends about it. You don’t need a “community” on some weird social app. Go to a manga store, get involved in irl meet ups, etc.
build a community on matrix, discord is compromised
they should sell copies instead of only having paywalled subscriptions. bandcamp > spotify model
You know what never got this DMCA?
Rizon wins again!
Well, it’s no surprise that they take down servers where people share torrents, etc. But pirated GIFs? Are you sure they’re not exaggerating here just to be safe? Anyway, ani.social’s chatroom is on Matrix, so I don’t think we need to worry (not that I encourage using it for sharing pirated content - that’s probably a bad idea)
BTW, it’s #space:ani.social if anyone’s curious
Apparently yes, honestly this is the perfect let discord kill itself.

Lmao, that’s insane. I mean, you could argue that in case of Blue Lock posting that GIF was like posting half of the frames used in the episode, but it’s still crazy
BTW, it’s #space:ani.social if anyone’s curious
Thanks
… Tenor gifs…? Seriously…?
Anyway, stop using Discord. Learn to set up a Matrix server.
I can barely even use matrix. They need figure out their UI and UX before it can become a serious option.
I spent multiple days setting up a matrix server, getting Livekit working and dealing with that abysmal dogshit matrix authentication system (MAS)
I joined a voice channel and something broke, I cannot leave it
That was six months ago, I was still apparently in that voice channel when I gave up and deleted the whole stack a week ago
All the clients I tried were a nightmare in their own special way :(
I really tried
It is a serious option. You were probably using a shitty client.
I would recommend Sable, as it’s very Discord-like. I’m sure others have experienced good clients with features perhaps more specific to an anime community.
Especially if it’s just for discussion. IIRC Signal has a desktop ap now too.
I’m in a bunch of the actual fansubbing discords and none of them seem to be affected so I’m guessing it just ones trying to be official communities for the show or whatever
At the same time, #Crunchyroll has a monopoly on #anime overseas, and removes most #physicalmedias from the store. And engineered tragedy, it feels like.
engineered tragedy
das kapital
Not sure what you mean by overseas, but at least in the US this season most of the best anime seems to be on Netflix (though Crunchyroll does have Apothecary Diaries).
Overseas = Outside of Japan
I believe the Frieren Discord was also shutdown and had to be recreated
