Nolnoa (the shop owner) could have just said he didn’t know where the flash of light came from, and Tartah sounded concerned/confused in the end.
I rewatched it and I think you’re right. Qifrey apologizes to Nolnoa right before the scene change, probably because he’s about to do something to him.
It’s to the point where I’m wondering if Qifrey is going to end up as the actual antagonist, or at least aligned with them. I’d been assuming he’d been so fervently searching for them out of vengeance/justice but he may want their forbidden magic for less scrupulous reasons.
