Confusing situation happens (usually protagonist gets into a sexually compromising position with someone that is not the protagonist love interest or it’s with some losing heroine) love interest thinks protagonist is into someone else but not them

Instead of protagonist actually explaining what is going on to clear the air like what a normal person would do, they just say “wait it’s not what it looks like!” But then never explain which causes cheap and unearned drama.
