Fall season is rapidly approaching! It’s time to start looking ahead to the next season and thinking about what is worth watching vs. what isn’t. This is also the official thread where I will watch for shows that you mention and will enable threads for those shows to be made by our resident bot, @rikka@ani.social.
Please feel free to use this thread as a normal weekly discussion thread as well! Anything that would normally be in the weekly discussion thread any other week is welcome here.

Apothecary Diaries S3 is the only upcoming series I know I will watch – though I expect that, as usual, I’ll wait until the season is done before starting and then binge it.
GuP: Das Finale Part 5 also jumped out at me from the movies section of the link. I’ll probably watch that eventually – I liked the series and Der Film – but I still need to watch Parts 1~4.
For shows that aren’t current, I recently started watching season 1 of Ranma 1/2 – as in, the one from 1989. I saw a few bits and pieces of the show as a kid, but never saw it from the beginning.
Definitely watching
- The Apothecary Diaries S3 - Obvious choice. The story so far has been varying from good to great. There’s also a movie in December. Hopefully will be available outside Japan in timely manner 🙏
- Cyberpunk: Edgerunners S2 - The first season was outstanding - one of the best sci-fi anime out there.
- Fool Night - Trailer looks great and it’s studio Shaft.
- There Is Also a Hole in the Student Organization! aka Raw Anal

- Firefly Wedding
- #I’m Looking For a Zombie - from the author of Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu
- The World’s Strongest Witch - the premise sounds interesting and I’m hearing a lot of positive opinions. Could be fun
Will try, but they start in the drop zone (I don’t request threads for these)
- A Wild Last Boss Appeared! S2 - season 1 started great, disappointed later. I don’t have a lot on my plate this season, so I’ll give it a second chance, but I’m not having high hopes
- Overgeared - looks generic, but has big titties, explosions, and from the trailers it looks like it has higher quality animation than your average JC Staff show, so it could be enjoyable kind of slop.
- FX Fighter Kurumi-chan - sounds like r/wallstreetbets the anime
- The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life - I have no reason to pick this up, it looks like slop, walks like slop, but it’s P.A. Works, so I’ll give it a shot at least
- Suikoden: The Anime - the first show from Konami animation, so I’m curious
- Romelia War Chronicle - same as above. New studio, first time director.
There’s also a bunch of movies, but I won’t be able to see them this season, so I guess I can skip that here

For what it’s worth, here is what I wrote about the first LN volume. TL;DR: don’t put too much hope into it.
LN impressions
One of those “somehow our entire fantasy society is based on skill ranks using earth terminology, but everyone thinks ‘S Rank’ is the worst because it’s so far down the alphabet, so I get left to die by my parents because that’s totally normal parenting behaviour, but it turns out S-Rank actually means it’s good!” type of stories. I’m groaning so much reading this; my neighbors started cheering for my stamina. There is a certain charm to it, though. It reminds me of the good old days before I stopped reading web novels for the lack of quality. This book here is riddled with so many logical and temporal errors that it should never have reached the point where it got picked up for publication and stayed in WN territory. It’s ridiculous, really. Like the editor just threw in the towel and said, “Yeah, whatever…just release it”.

Alright, going over the list for next season, here are my takes:
Definitely try to watch
- The World’s Strongest Witch - This manga is a riot, and I can’t wait for anime-onlies to be introduced to Rona and her antics.
- Apothecary Diaries Season 3 - Absolute must-watch for me.
- Appraisal Isekai Season 3 - This is kind of like a comfort watch. I like the source, and the adaptation is fine. Despite the politics/war setting, I don’t find this one too dramatic/tense.
Watch if time allows
- Sasaki and Peeps Season 2 - The first season was a roller coaster of a story, but suffered with poor production values. I am interested in seeing more, but it isn’t high on my priority list.
- Suikoden - I have a good friend that has been trying to get me to play Suikoden 2 for years. I might just try to watch the anime version instead to troll him.
- Magical Girl Raising Project - I have heard great things from source readers. Think Shiboyugi, but with a magical girl bent.
- Magic Knight Rayearth - An oldie of an isekai. My wife is a big fan of the manga and has tried to get me to read her copies for almost 20 years now. She has pretty good taste, so I expect the story to be pretty decent.
- Reincarnated as a Sword Season 2 - I am pretty sure I am past this point in reading the manga adaptation, but this one is still a lot of fun.
Other notes
- Romelia War Chronicle - I read the very beginning of the manga for this series and enjoyed it. It is kind of a cross between kicked out of the hero’s party and a gritty war story. It’s a new studio making a debut, so who knows how it will turn out.
- A Wild Last Boss Appeared Season 2 - I binged the manga for this series a couple weeks ago and it was way better than I thought it was going to be. I haven’t watched the first season yet, but might try to get caught up on this one.
- Reborn as a Space Mercenary - I really wish there were more sci-fi isekai out there. It seems like a natural genre mix between the mecha and isekai worlds. I don’t expect much from this, but just wanted to say that I want more of this mix.
Nia Liston is fun. I hope the adaptation will be good.
I’ll definitely be watching Apothecary Diaries season 3, The Ramparts of Ice, and Blue Box season 2. I might give Rayearth a try as well, since I’ll likely have the time. Nothing else has caught my eye, but we’ll see if I think any different once these shows actually release and I’ve watched a review or two.
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus for me, yep gotta watch this story again before they give us the new stuff lol
