and you KNOW this series is going to be pivotal to the overall lore of Kingdom Hearts just like EVERY thing else.
Don’t get me wrong I love Kingdom Hearts but man it’s hard to follow the story when like a piece of it is from a flip phone game in Japan from the early 00s that is pretty much impossible to play today.
Yeah, and on top of the many niche-but-pivotal installments, it’s also just an inherently confusing story. I once scrolled past what was meant to be a beginner’s summary of the series that just scraped the bare minimum of major story points and it was like 2.5hrs long. Like, each character is actually 2-3 characters in a trenchcoat, there’s simulations, parallel universes, hypothetical worlds, and through all of that you have Goofy and Donald being bros flying in a candy spaceship built by chipmunks. Man, I have no idea what these writers were/are on, but you may need to take some to truly get the story
I give kudos to people that know the WHOLE story and have played ALL the games. I tried and felt I had a grasp of it until I got to one point, can’t remember where, and I was like “wait…what’s happening?” and then it ends up I missed a game and sure enough it was the Japanese flip phone game that had a key element to the story. But like you said even after playing everything in many cases you still have to read online a write up someone made which on its own is usually like its own novel.
Kingdom Hearts lore makes Dark Souls lore look like a casual sunday stroll through the park.
Not just that: a piece that’s almost essential to understand the plot going forward. There’s a fandub that’s actually pretty decent, and it’s the only easily accessible way to experience the story anymore.
