Some positive news about last season’s Journal With Witch

‘Journal with Witch -Ikoku Nikki-’ has Officially won the Galaxy Award March 2026 in the television category! The last Anime to win the Monthly Galaxy Award before ‘Ikoku Nikki’ was ‘Ranking of Kings’ 4 years ago, March 2022

The Japanese Broadcast Critics Association honor is similar to the Emmy Awards, and given to outstanding television, radio programs, individuals, and organizations.

Well deserved. If it weren’t for Frieren it would have been my anime of the season.

Definitely anime of the season (if not the year but that’s a bit early to say) for me. Didn’t expect it to be this good and the second half was definitely rushed through but a show that explores these themes in such a mature way is rare and the execution was excellent. The music was great and the voice acting work really nailed down the emotional weight of the subject matter. It’s a real shame it’s not a complete adaptation, I heard that a bunch of chapters were glossed over towards the end.

Ironically for me, this season of Frieren felt so much like filler and lacking in character development that it’s on track to likely be the worst anime of the year for me. It’s a far cry from what made the first season really, really good imo.

Right? I live in fear of the inevitable live-action remake where everyone is played by soon-to-be-disgraced idols, but it’s just a terrific story.
