I never get why pink bocchi was so popular and original bocchi was not. Or how pink bocchi is more popular with the general audience than seemingly any other slice of life. Bocchi the Rock is a good anime but if I compare it to other Kirara adaptations like Gochiusa or Kiniro it’s just not on the same level in my opinion.

I think you know why it’s so, right? If shortly how I see it. People’s feelings resonates with Hitori’s feelings (when they tell “she’s litterally me”) and that’s what they like in it. The way anime shows Bocchi’s feelings is really the best part of BTR, for example:

As a person who thinks in mental images (like musicians and artists) in his head, I am delighted.
In general, SOL is very different (at least usually I can’t associate myself with girls in k-on, yryr, aria). You wanna see not “yourself”, but funny girls and enjoy someone else’s happiness, I suppose. In my case I’m glad that Bocchi found friends and (almost) became popular guitarist as she wished. That could be me or smth xD.
There are other reasons of course.
My tier list: Gochiusa >= K-ON >= BTR > Hitoribocchi > Kinmoza. In Kinmoza I mostly liked Aya/Youko pair, maybe I need to rewatch it. Still, I think Hitoribocchi is underestimated.
P.S. I hope I didn’t overload the reply. I can write more detailed. (But sometimes can’t figure out even 1 sentence.)
I see. Indeed, I don’t need a character to be like myself. I like when there are relatable parts but usually its spread out over the whole cast, little moments. I guess this is the big difference with moe and thus most other SOL as you say. In moe anime, the characters are not modeled to reflect the audience but instead something that the audience considers lovable. And thus generating a strong feeling of caring for the character and wanting them to be happy and safe. It’s an interesting topic. It only makes sense that this is a niche thing and general audiences would like something like BTR more. I must have sunk to deep into the moe hole and my perspective has warped.
Interesting to hear about Kinmoza. I put it right next to Gochiusa. I remember watching it and feeling really happy, it was pure sugar for the soul. I don’t think you need to rewatch it, it’s not a deep anime that requires a second watch to appreciate. Taste differs. Such shows as Kinmoza and Gochiusa is mostly just how you vibe with them in my opinion. Not too much thinking, just a lot of feeling. Whatever you feel is the truth.
And there is no way you could type too much in the comments. As you know I am guilty of that as well :)
