I think I’m done with this. Dahlia is a boring MC that has no will of her own other than ‘make device’. She showed a little backbone when she found out stuff was registered to Tobias, but the reason for it was such of a turn off. She didn’t show backbone because she was slighted, but because she couldn’t take responsibility for mistakes after what Tobias did. It’s fair to be angry about that of course, but it feels like the wrong reason here. And then the others just kinda coerced her into starting her own company out of nowhere. And then Gabriela told her what to change about her appearance in order to match expectations. Not really different than what Tobias did to her, but this time, it’s okay for some reason. She just does what other people tell her what to do and doesn’t really make her own decisions. It doesn’t feel like that’s on purpose, but rather Dahlia being an empty character.
Also, like I’ve said before, those shadows suck.
This is what I found most surprising. Dahlia hasn’t really grown at all as a character after her emancipation from Tobias. She simply changed who she is following orders from.
Not sure you can even call it emancipation tbh. She was a mere bystander when all of that happened. Tobias initiated the annulment of the engagement and other people took care of the rest. Dahlia hardly did anything except for dying her own hair back to her original colour.
Now, this could be the anime saying she still needs to grow, but it doesn’t feel like that’s what they’re saying
Yeah it’s not a good adaptation. The MC’s motivations come across a lot better in the LNs.
And yeah those shadows are freaking weird.
Is the LN worth reading? I’m still on the fence about dropping this show because some part of me hopes that it gets better because it does have potential.
If you think it has potential I’d say give the LNs a try.
At this stage you’ll stand a better chance of enjoying the story by reading the LNs. So far the anime is mostly leaving stuff out without adding much to compensate. I’m only sticking around in the hopes production quality somehow picks up again.
Edit: The manga could also be worth a try, the art is a lot better.
