What you are referring to as “Linux” is in fact “GNU/Linux” or as I have recently taken to calling it “GNU is Not Unix/Linux”
As someone who was familiar with gimp Long before I ever tried Linux, much less knew what gnu was, I always found it funny that the first letter was itself a recursive acronym
