Eh, that seems like a shit ton of clutter for no real benefit.
As it is, if someone wants the info, it’s easy to get, but doesn’t add more junk to the UI

Yeah, you block and report. That’s all you can do
Yeah, things like tags and the nsfw flag makes sense. It’s a useful tool that doesn’t hurt anyone, and reduces the hassles involved in removing a post just because there were errors in that surface level stuff.
Now, editing the content, no. Hell no.
The nsfw flag is the more important one tbh.
But, tags allow users to search and sort things (or ideally would, no idea what the actual implementation might be). Having consistent tagging for that purpose is a net plus as a user because if mods can change them, then when you search or sort, there’s a higher chance that the results will be consistent. When users pick their own tags and they can’t be changed, results get messy unless a mod removes the post, contacts the user, tells them what tag to use, then watches to make sure they use it when they repost/edit.
There’s no use for tags other than sorting, searching and filtering. So a mod kinda needs to be able to change them if they’re in place at all
No, it isn’t better to rebut stupid arguments. It’s a waste of time to read them in the first place.
When idiots keep repeating the same stupidity, you have to nip it in the bud before it gets rolling.
Bots.
Some instances will auto-sub to new communities. It helps make sure everyone can reach everyone. Nobody on one instance can “see” the new community until someone goes there the first time, so the bots just sub in and it’s handled.
At least, that’s the explanation I’ve seen when this has vibe come up before.
Tbh, it matters a lot less here on lemmy. No karma, so you aren’t screwed over by down votes, it just effects visibility of posts, really.
With that and the venting benefit of a dislike, in neutral on it being toggled on or not
There’s plenty of apps that do it already. I don’t have a list any more, but I’d bet that as comments pile up, one will form lol.
It would be nice for lemmy itself to have options like that, particularly for web only users.
Me? I mainly use sync and connect. Sync has the best dual column layout of the few apps that have the option, but connect is a better lemmy app overall. I use tablets for 99% of this kind of activity. Did with reddit and do with lemmy, and the multi column feed is just better for that. Phone, it’s connect.
It’s an old story.
I used to be heavy into martial arts. I’m a big guy, ex power lifter, and with a good sized belly (though the exact size has fluctuated over the years).
I was working a job where I had the freedom to set up a kind of personal dojo in the side yard while working nights. Neighbor was a smartass after seeing me work out a bit, made sumo jokes to a guy doing cutting practice. Explained the difference between sumo and what I was doing.
The guy was slow, and asked if that was like the samurai.
I said yeah, because I was doing Japanese jujutsu, iaido and general kenjutsu. You know, samurai shit.
He cracks a joke that I must be the fattest samurai in the south. Which, at the time, I was maybe 18-20% body fat, so not even close compared to a couple of guys I took classes with. I had been cutting weight pretty good for months, despite still having that bulgy belly you get when you power lift. Looked fatter than I was tbh.
Anyway, trying to keep this to the short version.
I told the story to friends, and discovered I had a new nickname, as friends do. It got shortened to southern samurai, and after I started using that as a gaming handle, it got shortened to southsamurai by character limits.
Pfft, just take Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman, and throw them in a desert with a camera
If you’re using an app, both connect and sync for lemmy have instance filtering.
The caveat is that it’s filtering, which is in-app only. But it works quite well in both.
It isn’t the subject matter. It’s the aggressive and intentional disruption that’s coordinated to disrupt other instances. They don’t just make shitty communities and post shitty things, they then start shit in other instances’ communities. That’s why they need defederation, not their political views or post subjects.
It’s pretty decent too!
Some on the old functionality isn’t there yet, like tabbed browsing of subs/communities. And it lacks some core lemmy stuff like blocking. It does, however, cover everything you need for basic scrolling and enjoying. Infinity was never my top reddit app, but it was still great. I think, if development of this version keeps up pace, it’s going to become very popular.
Only via web until the API gets better or a dev figures out a workaround
I’d say that most of the apps currently past alpha are really solid. Connect, liftoff, and thunder in particular stand out as having their own distinctive UI/UX, with an ever growing roster of features. And all three are barely out of alpha in their main release (though I keep thunder’s alpha updated rather than the standard release).
Jerboa is solid too, just janky in some ways and prone to crashes.
None of them are as far along as something like boost that’s been around for years and years with a shit ton of feedback from users. Jerboa is the only one of the three that predates the reddit migration afaik. That’s some impressive fucking work!
I’m looking forward to boost and sync entering the field for sure, but the apps available are pretty damn good. Even apps that are further behind like summit and slide are usable at least. Summit in particular is stable and covers casual use for lemmy perfectly.
I don’t use iOS, so I can’t say much about how those apps are coming, but they are coming.
Mastodon is pretty cool overall, but it’s dominated by politics until you start finding accounts to follow that aren’t politically oriented.
Because we can’t block an entire instance as users. We have to do it piecemeal, which is a major pain in the ass when every c/ on there is bloated shit.
Once lemmy ships that as a function, defederation isn’t necessary for this kind of situation.
And, there’s also the factor that it’s easier for people who want to deal with their shit to intentionally find it than it is for everyone else to block it.
I may be dyslexic, or duckslexic as the case may be
Fwiw, I hereby volunteer to take the c/ over, and dedicate it to the worship of our disney duck overload, the real Donald.
That’s not a joke. The best way to deal with the history behind the subreddit is to defang it. There’s always gong to be some troll or someone that actually worships the cheeto trying to make that community somewhere.
If instances preempt that by making communities with that name that are about some other Donald explicitly, it ceases to be able to be weaponized.
And there’s a ton of Donalds worthy of a c/. There’s the duck, there’s the amazing actor, Mr Glover, the other great actors Cheadle, and Sutherland; the McDonald’s even.
You pick which Donald you prefer, I’ll take the heat from the c/existing.
I haven’t seen a huge shift overall
What I have noticed is more early down votes that later get raised back into the positive.
Not sure why it is, though it did roughly coincide wit the most recent reddit migration. But that isn’t enough to assume causation. It’s a possibility, just not conclusive since it could be any number of things.
