A per-user rate limit of some sort could have reduced the attack surface I think? Something like that would be quite a bit of dev work to implement though…

That’s pretty unfortunate for the blog author, can imagine making that kind of mistake early in the morning will really wake you up.

The blog doesn’t mention specifically whether the author had uploaded using a Lemmy app or the webui AFAICT - if he used an app, there are some that actually store the auth/delete token returned by image uploads, and provide a section within the app where you can manage/delete (purge) images you’ve previously uploaded to Lemmy

That’s not lemmy world, that’s the bot configuration for a specific community, chosen by the moderators of that community

A while ago lemmyworld temporarily defederated from my old instance, and the feeds + activity dried up pretty quickly.

They refederated after a few of us hopped on to the matrix to try and find out the reason behind it, but it showed how much mass Lemmyworld has. Even if the communities are distributed across many instances, most of the users are visiting from Lemmyworld.

Things may be a little different now though as users have started to spread out a bit, and of course we have instances like Beehaw and Hexbear that aren’t federated with lemmyworld, but are running just fine.

Because of all the defederation stuff and most users being vocally negative about anime in general here, I previously assumed that it was blocked by a lot of instances and didn’t think to actually check.

Moving it makes sense because ani.social seems more like the home for anime on Lemmy, in the same way how programming.dev focuses on programming, discuss.tchncs.de focuses on DIY/electronics, and lemmy.dbzer0.com focuses on digital maritime and copyleft etc.

Lemmy to Lemmy moderator actions all federate, however it gets flaky with Lemmy to Kbin/Lemmy to Peertube/Lemmy to Mastodon (and vice versa) where each different activitypub implementation have their own unique moderation commands AFAIK.

Reports on Lemmy were not federated the last time it was brought up in a discussion, no idea if that has changed now

Everything else mentioned is 100% correct though, lemmy instances can also moderate communities that are federated to their instance, albeit only their instance users will see those changes.
