You can also actually do things on it without it being a battle of a thousand bots.
It’s been told that if you can decrypt what comes out the other side, you will understand the true nature of the universe.
They did ban lemmymigration, right?
I made the mistake of reading comments on one thread (I moved here full time) on r/Iamatotalpieceofshit about landlords.
It’s turned into a capitalistic hell hole, not only some of the horrible comments you read but also just need to look at the way the votes go, I felt disgusted tbh.
Surely the current ones can do that already.
Good to know. In that case I can really see a case for a super dumbed down version of this aimed at individuals like myself that wouldn’t mind self hosting but can’t be bothered figuring it out.
I’m waiting for the personal version, self-host your Lemmy experience for 2€ a month. Although maybe that would cause some issues with getting federated? Would any instances you want to look at have to accept you?
But I understand that it’s possible, since it’s possible on Mastodon, right? IMO a smooth account migration process where you don’t lose anything on the account even if the server randomly shuts down, and it’s just another line in your account history solves a lot of the problems I see with Lemmy.
Even for registration, it would lower the criticality of instance choice so you have more solutions like using a buffer server that gives people X time to choose another server, randomizing or even just to lower the pressure of it.
So that’s how you do it. Nice so you can also combine closely-related topics. I do think as a new user (like myself) it’s a bit daunting that I can’t just subscribe to 1 of each topic but potentially have to go seek out the multiple versions of it on different servers, let alone keep up in case new servers come around.
Maybe there could be a centralized list of multis you can subscribe to and these would be maintained for you, or something like that.
This also works with other fields. I’m pretty sure I’ll have these confidence swings my whole life regardless how good I get at anything.
