I think a younger generation will find it just as charming as the original. Certainly I enjoyed it and thought the actors made it work. Also there’s more drawn from the cultures of the Pacific and that works nicely with real people. After all the animation has its roots in real life experience.

There’s barely 10 years between the animated one and the live action remake. The kids who saw Moana in theaters are barely now getting old enough to have their own kids. That’s not a new generation. Kids today could see the original and there would be no noticeable difference from any other 3D animation films released this year.

The whole live action remake is morally bankrupt. There’s no other incentive but money. Sure, it will make money and distract kids for an hour. Watch it leave absolutely no significant mark on the broader culture. As well regarded and loved as the live action mermaid or Aladdin, or the lion King.
