Excellent shot! Before kids, I brought a DSLR to a verity of track events. My photos had a strong negative correlation between amount of panning blur and car sharpness (more panning blur = less sharp car) due to the car moving relative to me. Have any hints?
Lots of it is just practice. I took ~4500 pictures today, I’m going to guess ~400 are good by the end of culling. I try to rapid fire as many as I can when panning, in hope of the 1-2 really clear ones.
Mostly it’s just down to tracking and smooth movements. Rotating at the hips instead of the shoulders is a big one for me, since it’s a single, fluid movement that way.
The equipment really helps too. I’m shooting on a Nikon Z7 with the 70-200mm f2.8 S, which excels at the isolation of subjects from their background. When I was shooting with my entry level dslr I had a lot more issues getting perfect sharpness with the car relative to the background
