Is it possible to migrate my account or should I just link it in the new one? I’m worried about the .zip in lemmy.zip and would like to bite the bullet and change over to another instance.

It’s built in to the latest releases. Scroll down to the bottom of your user settings and there’s a new import/export option.
You can export and import your subscriptions using this tool: https://github.com/bunburya/lemmy2opml
My other server alts have my main account linked in the bio so of course you can do that too.
